Hi Simon love your clips in this one where you had white glaze then used iron oxide and colbalt on top for decorations would you have then used clear glaze to finish it off. I am a novice and have only used straight glazes and am now progressing into more decorations so would value your reply. Thanks for being generous with your time and skill
my ceramic teacher had us wet our greenware twice witha sponge of water before glazing. what does that do? is it necessary to do taht?

Hi Debbie ….25% cobalt oxide, 25% iron oxide, 25% manganese dioxide, 25% dry crushed porcelain body. mix in pestle / mortar ,pass through 100 mesh sieve.

The end result is very different in Oxidation verses Reduction and temp has alot to do with how these pigments all work together, also the under-over glazing right?
What I see on your website I don’t get here with just Oxidation!
Colorado is very dry as well, I don’t work outside with my pottery as often as I would like because of weather patterns,
don’t have that wonderful work area you have either, do want to change that though!

Simon, I’m using a lot of cobalt either as a slip or as underglaze and I’d like to know in what proportion you mixed it with the Iron oxide and the manganese?(of course, I hope to see the finished result) I’ve never tried to put oxides over the glaze, does it make any difference? I’m firing in an electric kiln, so this might make a difference too.
